Attorney General's Office

The Attorney General’s Office of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, on the basis of Article 134 of the Constitution of the country, is part of the executive power and is acting in an independent manner and subject to the Provisions of Law. Investigation of crimes and litigation against the defendant in the court forms the core duties of the AGO. The leadership of the Attorney General’s Office of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan assures that, in accordance with the pervasive laws of the country, it protects the rights and freedoms of Afghan citizens, and respects and defends Islamic values, rights and freedoms, human dignity and human rights, which are one of the priorities of the Attorney General's Office. In order to defend the rights of Afghan citizens, this institution investigates and examines all cases with absolute decency, independence and impartiality, and observes justice and fairness, and by relying on documents, testimonies, and evidence will make decision.

Attorney General’s Office (AGO) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan operates based on article 134 of “Afghanistan constitution” and article 4 of “Law on AGO Mandate and Structure”. AGO strongly considers the enforced laws while performing its duties (Crime Investigation, prosecuting the criminal cases, file the indictment/lawsuit against the accused in courts, and enforce the court orders/presidential decrees).
